Profiles coming soon. UNYA ACT Executive 2009-10 President: Anthony Antioch
Anthony, 19, was elected as the youngest-ever President of UNYA ACT in June 2009. He attended Radford College, where he was Valedictorian, and currently studies International Relations, Arabic and Law at ANU. He works as a paralegal at Snedden Hall & Gallop and is an active volunteer for the Red Cross, serving as Chair of its Youth Advisory Committee. He is also the 2010 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year. Vice-President (Administration): Jarrod Cusack
Jarrod, 19, is the division's financial and communications guru, performing the roles of both treasurer and secretary. Originally from Sydney, Jarrod attended Penrith Selective School, where he was Vice-President of the SRC. He is now pursuing degrees in Finance and Law at ANU, while working part-time for Bayley and Associates. He also convened the Kofi Annan Shield 2009, the most successful competition the division has ever run. Vice-President (Policy): Aleks Sladojevic
Aleks, 19, directs UNYA ACT's policy activities and advocacy initiatives. She is coordinating our campaign on sustainable development and leading our efforts to lobby the government, raise awareness of important issues and effect change in the community. Aleks attended Walford Anglican School in Adelaide, where she was School Captain, and twice served on the executive of UNYA SA. She is currently studying Economics and Law at ANU. Vice-President (Education): Helen Burke
Helen, 20, administers the educational activities of UNYA ACT, including the organisation's many interactive school visits. In this role, she plans to pursue closer relationships with students across the ACT, as well as those in remote NSW through activities such as the regional road trip. After graduating from Merici College, she spent a gap year teaching in Vietnam and is now completing an Advanced Science degree in Marine Science at ANU. Vice-President (Media): David GilksDavid, 20, brings new direction to UNYA ACT's relationship with the media. Keen to see UNYA's public profile raised across the nation, he will be working to involve the media in UNYA's events throughout the year. Outside of UNYA, he coordinates On-Site Ticketing for the National Folk Festival and moonlights as a Celtic fiddler and dance caller. A former student of Narrabundah College, he is currently studying Economics and Law at ANU. Vice-President (Events): Penny FitzGerald
Penny, 20, spearheads all of UNYA ACT's social activities and other initiatives for the benefit of members. She coordinates a variety of events aimed at promoting cohesion and friendship within the organisation. Her involvement in UNYA began with the Victorian division in 2006 and, having moved from Melbourne after a gap year in Europe, she now studies International Relations at ANU. Immediate Past President: Nicky VreugdenhilNicky (also know by his popular nickname, 'Wiggles'), 21, was UNYA ACT's President during 2008-09. Born in Adelaide and bred in Tasmania, he currently studies Economics and Maths at ANU, where he is Chair of the Union Board. Nicky's present role in the organisation is as the National Vice-President (Policy), which sees him guide UNYA's policy activities on a national scale. As IPP, he serves as a special advisor to Anthony. Evatt Trophy 2010 Convenor: Simon DrakeSimon, 20, is Convenor of the Evatt Trophy, UNYA's national debating competition, which will be hosted by Canberra in December 2010. Simon joined UNYA ACT in 2005 and previously convened the Year 9-10 Conference 2006 and the Kofi Annan Shield 2007. He is another former Valedictorian of Radford College and currently studies International Relations and Law at ANU, having spent 2008 working in Japan as a Labo Intern. |
